This is maybe not the flower you would offer to your wife, but it is indeed interesting...

The large Indonesian plant, whose botanical name is Amorphophallus titanum, began opening up about 6 p.m. Friday and was in full bloom by early Saturday morning, curator Debbie Wiley-Vawter said in a telephone interview Monday.

The plant emits a stench to attract decaying flesh-eating beetles, flies and sweat bees for pollination. Once it blooms, the odor lingers for about eight hours, then it takes several more years before the plant has enough energy to bloom again.

How bad does it smell?

"It's like several days old road kill on a hot, sunny day," Wiley-Vawter said.

Unele din putinii "contemporani" care, in mintea mea, deja intrasera in eternitate inca de pe timpul vietii, prin scrierile lor.

Mi-a placut enorm tot ce a scris: Bunul simt ca paradox, sau chiar "Treptele lumii sau calea catre sine...". Un spirit jovial, care te cucerea prin sinceritate.

Insa, ca si Eliade, era speriat, poate depasit de avantul (si entuziasmul) tehnologic din zilele noastre. Poate o reactie prea conservatoare... insa de inteles din punctul de vedere al unui om care punea cultura mai presus de orice. La urma urmei, lumea de azi a pierdut mult din entuziasmul pentru cultura de acum cateva generatii.

Am fost in Mexic acum cateva zile la Puerto Vallarta. Seamana cu litoralul romanesc... pacat ca n-am facut niste poze mai autentice. Lipsa de spatiu pt poze, ce sa-i faci s-a terminat filmul.

Oricum, din selectii au ramas astea.

Today I woke up late. My daughter (three years and one day, at this very moment) started to get nervous - Hey dad, come up!

And I realized that kids take the life more serious than we. I still remember her curious face as I teached her how to wash her teeth. In the end, heh, it must be good to be a kid. You are surrounded all the time by novel stuff, everything shocks you. Every five minutes, you see something that you never saw before...

Probably blogs were create for people that love to send email, to send verbose messages, long letters. To open their mind, whatever that means. I'm not sure if this is my case. I am actually on the opposite. From time to time, in my whole life there comes this moment when I stare in horror to a blank sheet of paper, not knowing what to say. Or, in this case, to a nice, rectangular, white rectange on my screen. Whatever. I guess I started writing to get over this... umm... fear of writing?

Anyway, talking is good. I kind of feel the effects of the surrogate. Artificial sugar is good. I love sugar.

P.S. I case you are wondering, no, I haven't read anything by Freud :-)
